Average White Band

Friday, October 29th - 8:00pm

The Wolf Den

Average White Band are widely regarded as one of the best Soul and Funk bands in the history of music. Though perhaps best known for their timeless instrumental mega-hit "Pick Up the Pieces," the band's strength actually lay in their consistently accomplished songwriting, stretching across several gold-selling albums and multi- Grammy nominations for the legendary Atlantic Records. Somewhat incongruously, given their Scottish roots, the six-piece took the influences of their R&B heroes - people like Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Donny Hathaway and others - and developed their own authentic sound which was eagerly adopted by black audiences in the U.S. and elsewhere.

Don't miss out on the rare opportunity to see these two men live on stage. It's an event that makes professional wrestling seem like a night at the opera. You'll hear from Bill, you'll hear from Glenn, and then... they'll take the stage together. What happens then? Heaven only knows, but one thing is for sure—you'll want to see it with your very own eyes.

Bill O'Reilly is the godfather of "no spin" and in-your-face television. For years he's been the centerpiece of the Fox News lineup with his unmistakable style and unflinching commitment to truth as he sees it. In Bill's world, brutal honesty beats hypocrisy every time. And you know how they say that some men's "bark" is worse than their "bite?" With Bill... yeah, not so much. As Bill puts it, "My teeth are in good shape."

Glenn Beck is the new kid on the block, the fastest rising star in cable news. Through humor, raw emotion and the tenacity of a pit bull, Glenn has become the new voice of conservative America. Steeped in the teaching of our forefathers, Glenn wears his heart on his sleeve, and no matter what he says—whether it's about politics or pop culture—you can bet he's got the facts to back it up. He's less a TV host and more like, say... a force of nature. "There is really no better way to start the New Year than by joining Bill on stage for the first time ever," says Glenn. "Wait...should I be worried?"

View event details for Tom " The Coach" Whiteley featuring David Lee Nelson with special guest Billy Winn

The Cabaret Theatre

$20.00

Encore, Encore! Last time at Mohegan Sun's Cabaret Theatre, "The Coach" got a standing ovation. Come see why. You don't have to like sports to love "The Coach," comedian Tom Whiteley's rasp-voiced, bug-eyed other self. Outfitted in Knute Rockne-era garb, Whiteley scores laugh after laugh with his carefully crafted monologues and high-adrenaline performance. Wildly unique, consistently funny, Whiteley is a special comedian audiences will remember for the rest of their lives."The Coach" has been featured on ESPN and Good Morning America (ABC). Tom Whiteley has appeared at many of the nation's best comedy venues such as New York City's Dangerfield's, Atlantic City's Borgata Hotel, Funny Bone, Baltimore's Comedy Factory Outlet and Jacksonville's Comedy Zone. The Coach has opened for comedian Joe Piscopo and the musical group The Drifters.

After he and his wife decided to make the move to New York, David Lee Nelson had the good fortune to fall into a slot at a comedy club that had just opened and was desperate for acts. As such, the talented Charleston native soon found himself performing six days a week, sometimes as many as four shows a night. These days, Nelson is working better rooms. Nelson has reversed course even further from his rigid training and is now taking fourth-level improv classes from instructor Kevin Mullaney at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York, which, he says, has greatly expanded what he thinks "funny" can be.

Billy Winn has an ornate ability to interact with and jumpstart an audience with his high-energy style and instant comedic likeability. He is animated, and a storyteller, basing a lot of his material on kids, relationships and marriage. Billy Winn started his illustrious comedy career at the original Treehouse Comedy Club in Westport over twenty-five years ago hosting Connecticut’s first comedy Open Mic Night. He has parlayed that natural comedic ability into a comedy career that spans all the major medias. For seventeen years, Billy was an integral part of Connecticut Radio. Billy has been a culture in Connecticut radio with prior stints with WPLR and KC101. His stand-up comedy has been featured on A&E’s Comedy on the Road, VH1’S Stand-up Spotlight, along with an appearance on Live with Regis & Kelly.

Combining energetic physical comedy, clever wordplay and trenchant observations about human behavior, Cook’s unique brand of stand-up and accessible guy-next-door attitude have galvanized audiences of all ages. His debut CD/DVD release, Harmful If Swallowed, appeared on eight different Billboard charts and is certified platinum. A few years later, he catapulted to media headlines when his sophomore comedy CDx2/DVD, Retaliation, debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200, hitting double platinum, making him the highest charting comedian in twenty-nine years, and earning him a place alongside best-selling comedy vets Bill Cosby, George Carlin and Steve Martin.

In 2008, Cook again proved his star power in front of a combined live crowd of 70,000 people with two highly rated specials, Vicious Circle (for HBO) and Rough Around the Edges (for Comedy Central). Last year, Cook teamed up again with Comedy Central with his new special, ISolated Incident –his most ambitious album and special to date, taped in an intimate comedy club setting rather than a arena. The album found Cook covering new kinds of material, from the personal to the political and it debuted commercial-free on Comedy Central in May 2009 and was also shot in one single, edit-free take from beginning to end.
